Al-Baqarah · 2:255
Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth.
Ayat al-Kursi — the Throne Verse — is described by the Prophet ﷺ as the greatest verse in the Quran. It contains ten independent sentences, each a complete theological statement. 'Al-Hayy' (the Ever-Living) means He has always existed and will always exist — His life is unlike ours. 'Al-Qayyum' (the Sustainer) means every creature depends on Him while He depends on nothing. The verse destroys every form of polytheism, fear, and attachment to other than Allah — because it makes unmistakably clear: there is nothing and no one like Him.
Revealed in Madinah. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi after every obligatory prayer, nothing will prevent him from entering Paradise except death.' And: 'Whoever recites it before sleep, Allah will appoint a guardian angel over him and no devil will approach him until morning.'
If you truly believed that Allah is Al-Hayy al-Qayyum — alive and sustaining you in every breath — what would you stop fearing?
Recite Ayat al-Kursi after every salah today and once before sleeping. Mean every word.
“Ayat al-Kursi is the greatest verse in the Quran — it describes the One who holds everything.”
