Ash-Sharh · 94:5-6
فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا
For indeed, with hardship will be ease. Indeed, with hardship will be ease.
Allah repeats the promise twice — not by accident. The scholars noted something profound in the Arabic: 'hardship' (al-'usr) has the definite article 'al-', making it one specific hardship. But 'ease' (yusran) has no definite article — meaning there are multiple eases coming for every one hardship. Ibn Kathir said: 'One difficulty cannot overcome two eases.' The verse was revealed during one of the hardest periods of the Prophet's ﷺ life — yet Allah's response was not a command to be patient, but a promise that ease is already on its way, embedded in the hardship itself.
Revealed in Makkah during a period of intense persecution and grief. The Prophet ﷺ had lost Khadijah and Abu Talib — his greatest supports — and the community was under severe pressure. Allah did not remove the difficulty. He revealed that ease lives inside it.
What hardship are you in right now that you cannot yet see the ease within?
Write down your current difficulty. Then write: 'With this hardship comes ease — twice.' Keep it visible.
“Allah said it twice: ease is already inside the hardship. You just cannot see it yet.”
