Al-Ikhlas · 112:1-4
Say: He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born. Nor is there to Him any equivalent.
'Al-Samad' — the Eternal Refuge — is a word unique to Allah. It means the one to whom all creatures turn in need, who Himself needs nothing. 'He neither begets nor is born' — this single verse nullifies every false concept of Allah across all theologies: no son, no father, no origin, no end. The Prophet ﷺ said this surah equals one-third of the Quran. The scholars explained: the Quran contains theology, law, and stories — this surah is pure theology. To know it fully is to know one-third of everything Allah revealed.
According to several narrations, this surah was revealed in response to the polytheists of Makkah who asked the Prophet ﷺ to describe his Lord. Who is He made of? What is He from? The answer is four verses that strip away every human projection.
Al-Samad — the One all creation turns to in need. Do you turn to Him before or after you've exhausted every other option?
Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas three times — the equivalent of the full Quran — as your morning dhikr.
“Four verses that contain everything you need to know about who Allah is.”
