زَكَاة
Zakat
Za-kaah
Obligatory charity — the purification of wealth by giving.
Zakat means purification. The scholars said: wealth without Zakat is like a body without circulation — it stagnates. By giving the prescribed portion to those who need it, the believer's wealth is purified, their heart is softened, and the community is strengthened. Zakat is not charity from above — it is a right the poor hold over the wealthy.
"Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify them." — Quran 9:103
"Islam is built upon five: testimony of faith, prayer, Zakat, fasting, and Hajj." — Sahih Bukhari
