زُهْد

Zuhd

Zoo-hd

Detachment from the world — not owning less, but being owned by less.

Zuhd is not poverty and it is not monasticism. The Prophet ﷺ had wealth, led armies, and managed a state — yet he slept on a mat and mended his own sandals. Zuhd is the freedom that comes when the dunya no longer controls your heart. You can own things without being owned by them. You can lose things without being broken by them.

"Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting." — Quran 57:20

"Be in this world as a stranger or a traveler." — Sahih Bukhari

What possession, habit, or comfort would break you if you lost it?
